Now, you can take the IELTS exam on a computer in addition to on paper. For those who choose to take the IELTS on paper, the Writing, Listening, and Reading portions must be completed on paper with HB pencils or pens. A certified IELTS examiner conducts the Speaking examination face-to-face or over a video chat. After 13 calendar days, the IELTS test taken on paper yields its results.

When taking the IELTS on a computer, test-takers complete the Listening, Reading, and Writing portions online. The IELTS examiner for the Speaking test will still be face-to-face or available via video call. You have the convenience of selecting from a variety of test dates and slots with computer-based IELTS, and you can anticipate your results in 3–5 days.
